A bunch of books (Paperback)

This thematic issue on medieval book collections is the result of a symposium, which was organised on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Queeste in 2013. In the last couple of decades, the idea that the meaning of texts is determined by the material context in which these texts are preserved has become central to the study of historical literature in the Low Countries. Not only individual texts, but also manuscripts as a whole functioned in the context of a larger collection of books. In four contributions, the authors of this thematic issue explore the sources for the study of book collections and the ways in which individual medieval books related to collections as a whole and to the users and owners of these collections.
